Revalidation of Cessna C525 Citation typerating

The practical exam - license proficiency check (LPC) in order to revalidate the Cessna C525 Citation series typerating is subject to the provision of the Subpart H, Section 2, clause FCL.740.A (b) of the Part-FCL.

Revalidation license proficiency check - LPC of the Cessna C525 Citation type rating shall be performed by the practical exam with Type rating examiner - TRE(A) only.

Single pilot operations versus multi pilot operations

The Part-FCL recognizes two different ways of operating the Cessna C525 Citation airplane. For pilots who operate the plane within the Cessna C525 Citation single-pilot operations are different requirements than the Cessna C525 Citation multi-pilot operations.

Pilots operating or willing to operate the Cessna C525 Citation within he commercial air transport (CAT) for the company which is a holder of the Air operator certificate (AOC), the multi-pilot operations is mandatory. Further procedures for training and checking of the flight crew with multi-pilot operations privileges are described in detail in the company Operations manual, Part D. In addition the license proficiency check - LPC of the pilot operating within the commercial air transport may be extended by the different trainings described in the Operations manual, Part-D, i.e. Low visibility take-off, special trainings for the airports (Innsbruck - LOWI/INN, London - City EGLC/LCY, etc) or the either/right seat qualification.

Candidates who are willing to operate Cessna C525 Citation in both the single-pilot operations and multi-pilot operations shall undertake two separate license proficiency check - LPC to demonstrate their proficiency to fly the Cessna C525 Citation airplane as a solo pilot and within the multi-crew concept.

Revalidation of the Cessna C525 Citation typerating using flight simulator

In accordance with Appendix 9 to Part-FCL, there is a period of the of the three months (90 days) before the expiry date of the current typerating to complete the revalidation exam - a license proficiency check - LPC. The license proficiency check - LPC may be performed on the one of the variants of an Cessna C525 Citation airplane only.

For such license proficiency check may be used either actual Cessna C525 Citation airplane or the flight simulator (Full Flight Simulator - FFS) which represents the Cessna C525 Citation type.

Combination of the different types of the flight synthetic training devices (FSTD) i.e/ - full flight simulator (FFS) and flight training device (FTD) is possible. Only requirement is that all of the flight synthetic training devices are complying with the EASA TCDS for Cessna C525 Citation type. Combination of the check on the actual Cessna C525 Citation airplane and the various flight synthetic training devices (FSTD) is also possible.

Further requirements for the specific cockpit layout of the simulator, or for the specific avionics or equipment of the simulator may be required by the licensing authority of the candidate.

In accordance with the EASA type certification - EASA TCDS (Type Certificate Data Sheet) there are few variants which represents the type Cessna C525 Citation.

EASA TCDS recognizes following variants of the Cessna C525 Citation type:

  • Cessna C525 Citation Jet (CJ)
  • Cessna C525 Citation (CJ1 and CJ1+)
  • Cessna C525A Citation (CJ2+ and CJ2)
  • Cessna C525B Citation (CJ3)
  • Cessna C525C Citation (CJ4)
  • Cessna C525 Citation M2

The successfully passed Cessna C525 Citation license proficiency check - LPC performed on any of the above mentioned variants of the Cessna C525 Citation assures the C525 typerating revalidation for the next 12 months (1 year).

During the validity period of the Cessna C525 Citation typerating, the applicant for the revalidation of the Cessna C525 Citation typerating shall complete at least:

  • 10 route sectors as a pilot of any of the Cessna C525 Citation airplane
  • or 1 route sector on an actual Cessna  C525 Citation airplane or in a flight simulator (FFS) which represents the Cessna C525 Citation with the Type rating examiner - TRE (A). This route sector with TRE(A) may be performed as a part of the license proficiency check - LPC.

The license proficiency check - LPC for revalidation of the Cessna C525 Citation typerating may be combined together with the operator proficiency check - OPC. This is especially essential for the Cessna C525 Citation pilots flying within the commercial environment (so-called AOC). If the Cessna C525 Citation license proficiency check - LPC is combined together with the Cessna C525 Citation operator proficiency check - OPC, the requirement about the minimum route sectors is not applicable.

Both, the Cessna C525 Citation license proficiency check - LPC and Cessna C525 Citation operator proficiency check - OPC shall be performed by the Type rating examiner - TRE(A) authorized for examinations on the Cessna C525 Citation.

Requirements for successful pass

General requirements and examination procedure for the successful pass of the examination - revalidation license proficiency check of Cessna C525 Citation is the same as any of the license proficiency check (LPC) for any other airplane, type rating or class rating.

Practical test - the license proficiency check - LPC for Cessna C525 Citation consists of few different sections. Those sections are representing all of the different phases of flight appropriate to the category (airplanes) and the type of airplane - Cessna C525 Citation.

Privileges of the Cessna C525 Citation typerating holder

The Cessna C525 Citation typerating entitles the holder to fly the variant of the Cessna C525 Citation airplane within the scope of the EASA type certificate datasheet (EASA TCDS). In accordance with Regulation Ec 1178/2011 and the provisions FCL.740 (a), the validity of the Cessna C525 Citation type rating is 12 months (1 year).

Cessna C525 Citation typerating entitles the holder to conduct flight on the following Cessna C525 Citation variants:

  • Cessna C525 Citation Jet (CJ)
  • Cessna C525 Citation (CJ1 and CJ1 +)
  • Cessna C525A Citation (CJ2 + and CJ2)
  • Cessna C525B Citation (CJ3)
  • Cessna C525C Citation  (CJ4)
  • Cessna C525 Citation M2

Differences training to other variants of the Cessna C525 Citation

Cessna C525 Citation typerating entitles the holder to act as a member of the flight crew on the variant of Cessna C525 Citation airplane on which he successfully passed the license skill test.

To act as a member of the flight crew on another variant of the same type of aircraft - Cessna C525 Citation, the so-called differences training is required. This differences training is usually being provided by the airplane operator in accordance with the approved Operations manual, Part-D.

For example: you have passed your license skill test (LST) on the aircraft, or on simulator which represents the variant of  Cessna C525 Citation, CJ1 and you would like to act as a member of the flight crew on Cessna C525B Citation, CJ3. In this case, the need to attend the additional training, so-called differences training to the Cessna C525B Citation, CJ3 variant.

If the pilot was not acting as a member of the flight crew on specific variant of Cessna C525 Citation airplane for more than 24 months, in accordance with FCL.710 (b) Part-FCL, Regulation Ec 1178/2011 the additional differences training is required.

The requirement above is just a legislation requirement required by the Regulation (EC) 1178/2011. Any owner of the airplane or the operator, respectively may have additional requirements, which may be required beyond the legislation requirements, to let you fly as a pilot in command (PIC) on the specific variant of the Cessna C525 Citation operated/owned.
