⚠️ EASA FCL skill test ✈️
In order to obtain the EASA flight crew license, the skill test with EASA examiner is required by Part FCL to attend.
License skill test or simply skill test is the term associated with checkride required for initial obtain of class rating, type rating, but mainly the EASA flight crew license. The skill test for flight crew license with single pilot privileges can only be done by an EASA Flight examiner - FE(A).
When we are talking about the single-pilot skill tests it is all about three main flight crew licenses:
- Light Pilot Aircraft License - Aeroplanes - LAPL(A)
- Private Pilot License - Aeroplanes - PPL(A)
- Commercial Pilot License - Aeroplanes - CPL(A)
EASA also establishes so-called Airline Transport Pilot License - ATPL(A), however the ATPL skill test has to be done in particular multi pilot type of an aircraft. Due that reason the ATPL(A) skill test can only be done by Type Rating Examiner or Simulator Flight Examiner for particular type rating.
Flight Examiner privileges ✈️
As mentioned above, the skill test for initial obtain of EASA flight crew license can only be done by EASA Flight examiner.
Based on the privileges and experience of Flight examiner, the skill test privileges may be given as per FCL.1005.FE as follows:
- skill tests for the issue of the PPL(A) and skill tests and proficiency checks for associated/ single-pilot class and type ratings - 1 000 hours of flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes or TMGs, including at least 250 hours of flight instruction;
- skill tests for the issue of the CPL(A) and skill tests and proficiency checks for the associated single-pilot class and type ratings - 2 000 hours of flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes or TMGs, including at least 250 hours of flight instruction;
- skill tests and proficiency checks for the LAPL(A) - 500 hours of flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes or TMGs, including at least 100 hours of flight instruction;
Since an EASA flight crew license can be issued only with the valid class rating, it is important to mention, that license skill test towards initial obtain of EASA license is done together with skill test for initial obtain of class rating. Due that reason, the Flight Examiners are also holders of Class Rating Examiner certificate for particular class rating.
Validity of EASA license ✈️
Once obtained, the EASA Flight crew license is valid permanently. There is no need to repeat the license skill test in order to keep the license. The limiting factors requiring revalidation or renewal are:
- class ratings or type ratings - valid no more than 24 or 12 months
- instrument rating - valid for 12 months
- instructor certificates - valid for 36 months
- medical certificate (depending on the class - valid minimum of 6 months up to 5 years)
- language proficiency (validity based on the level of English)
